How to Play Roulette
Roulette is fun and easy to play–learn how to play roulette in this article. The roulette wheel is marked with numbers 1 through 36 and the numbers “0” and “00”. The numbers are alternately colored red and black, and the “0” and “00” are green. Color and number combinations offer a variety of betting options. Wagers can be placed on individual numbers or groups of numbers.
Roulette chips are different from other casino chips. Each player receives a different color chip and decides the value of the chip when they are purchased. Roulette chips may only be purchased in stacks of twenty. For example: if you would like your roulette chips to be worth $1 each, then you would purchase a stack for $20.
While bets are being placed, the dealer spins the roulette ball in the opposite direction of the spinning wheel. Bets may be placed until the dealer announces “no more bets” as the ball begins to drop. When the ball falls into a number on the roulette wheel, the dealer places a marker on the winning number on the table layout and pays the winning bets.
Here is some general information about the bets and payouts for single chip bets and the many combinations available:
Straight Up
A straight up bet is a bet on a single number, and it pays out at 35 to 1 odds. This means that if you bet $1 on a straight up bet and win, you’ll receive $35 in winnings.
Split Bet – Two Numbers
A split bet is a bet on two adjacent numbers, and it pays out at 17 to 1 odds. This means that if you bet $1 on a split bet and win, you’ll receive $17 in winnings.
Street Bet – Three Numbers
A street bet is a bet on three numbers in a row, and it pays out at 11 to 1 odds. This means that if you bet $1 on a street bet and win, you’ll receive $11 in winnings.
Corner Bet – Four Numbers
A corner bet is a bet on four numbers that form a square, and it pays out at 8 to 1 odds. This means that if you bet $1 on a corner bet and win, you’ll receive $8 in winnings.
Line Bet – Five Numbers
A line bet is a bet on two adjacent rows of numbers, and it pays out at 5 to 1 odds. This means that if you bet $1 on a line bet and win, you’ll receive $5 in winnings.
Column or Section/Dozens Bets – Twelve Numbers
A section or column bet includes twelve number or 1/3 of the numbers, and they pay out at 2 to 1 odds. This means that if you bet $1 dollar on a column or section bet, you’ll receive $2 in winnings.
Outside Bet
Outside bets include several options to be on multiple numbers at once, and pays out at 1 to 1odds, or even money. This means that if you bet $1 on an outside bet, you’ll receive $1 back. Outside bet types include:
- One to Eighteen (low)
- Nineteen to Thirty-Six (high)
- Red
- Black
- Odd
- Even
